is what we almost always are: close to happiness, close to another, close to leaving, close to tears, close to God, close to losing faith, close to being done, close to saying something, or close to success, and even, with the greatest sense of satisfaction, close to giving the whole thing up.

Our human essence lies not in arrival, but in being almost there, we are creatures who are on the way, our journey a series of impending anticipated arrivals. We live by unconsciously measuring the inverse distances of our proximity: an intimacy calibrated by the vulnerability we feel in giving up our sense of separation.

It’s Nation Time: A new Yoga Journey. I was intending something different than what came out. I was expressing like most American Institutions (yoga is not an exception because it’s “spiritual”) Yoga is tainted in white supremacy.

(Also you are God so the Kemetic practice of yoga was about connecting to the self. Returning to Heru!) Which has nothing to do with religion.

Yoga is not some noble island that stands alone and exists in Mount Olympus reserved for the Gods, lifting its nose at racism. Yoga today is a product of redlining in communities, lack of representation and the unforgettable American attempt to gaslight history by existing in a racially colorblind delusion.

Yoga today is white because every philosophy developed throughout the world has always been shaped by the people in need of it to survive. And the language used in studios across this country is ignoring the uniqueness of our experience. And it’s not anyone’s fault because you only know your experience. Speaking in abstractions and concepts isn’t helping our community.

Like everything built on a rocky foundation it must fall and it will be replaced by something bigger and better if we have yogis and spiritualist dedicated to doing the work. Yoga has not been an expression of our experience. Yoga has not held space for black men getting killed by police, it has not held services for black mothers that die during child birth.

But now it is time for a new age in yoga. This objective does not frighten me but actually inspires me. I believe we need to exercise every revolutionary act in this country. Every man, woman and child must become active in the revolution. We can become Anti-imperialist, Anti-exploitation, petition, vote, March, organize, paint, write, speak, and have a spiritual practice that gives us the resilience to keep the faith.

So I declare YOGA IS WHITE NO MORE! Our experience will be broadcast, Our Yogis showcased, Our stories told!
